Perrin Brewing Co. Lazarus Sour

What the brewers say

"Sour blonde aged in used French oak wine barrels and naturally soured."

What our panel thought

"Lightly sour and tart with a subtle but restrained level of funk, straddles the fence between American sour and classic wild ale. Aroma is complex with hints of leather, green apple, peach, and subtle caramel. Flavor is equally multifaceted with hints of apple, funk, oaky tannins, and light vanilla."

What our editors thought

"A soft and subtle golden sour with tame acidity and a compelling white-wine character that's medium-dry. Layered with an unexpected complexity."

2nd Story Ale Works Farmhouse Citrus

“Nose suggests lemon-lime and salinity, more like a Mexican lager, but it’s punchy and bright. Subtle herbal notes. Gently tart and quite dry. Needs more carbonation; a tad thin and watery. Lingering zesty tang. Refreshing.”

Jester King Brewery Biere de Miel

**Aroma:** “Light citrus and pineapple fruity _Brett_ funk. A wonderfully curious blend of sweet honey floral notes. _Brett_ funk and fruitiness and expected saison estery fruitiness.” **Flavor:** “A lemon acidity hits up front and carries throughout with a lemon sweetness and hints of orange, as well as a bitterness in the back. A spicy honey flavor up front that’s quickly overshadowed by a prominent tartness. Remarkably dry for the amount of honey flavor that is retained.” **Overall:** “Lemon and pineapple funk define this beer. Some light peppery complexity in the background. Tart and refreshing overall with great personality. A bright beer full of unique flavors that all manage to work wonderfully together, with the honey flavors able to peek out and complement the _Brett_.”

BarrelHouse Brewing Co. Mango IPA

__Aroma:__ “Big juicy candy mango and peach, with funky ripe tones and citrusy notes. Fruit-forward, with stone-fruit characteristics, including light esters, floral notes (blueberry, rose, orange, and strawberry). Underlying grassy, herbal, earthy hops notes, but not as much hops as expected. Low malt with hints of bread and toast.” __Flavor:__ “The mango comes through well, but the hops are understated so that at first, it expresses itself as more of a mango American wheat. At the end of the swallow, a low bitterness lingers briefly, bringing forth the IPA character. Moderate sweetness, with supporting malt, if a little thin, and dry overall.” __Overall:__ “This beer doesn’t know what it wants to be: wheat, pale ale, or IPA. The flavors are muddled, with the mango coming through as peach and indistinct fruits. Without knowing it’s a mango IPA, I wouldn’t have guessed. The hops bitterness was right and the malt supported it nicely—it was balanced and pleasant.”
