The Lost Abbey Church on the Hill 2021 vintage

What the brewers say

“Making its return with help from our friends at Mostra coffee.”

What our panel thought

“Coffee with a pepper-flesh character that fades into the oak. The flavor is bitter espresso fortified with a half shot of bourbon. Finishes off dry with lingering bitterness.”

What our editors thought

“Spiky coffee with a structured wood note in the nose. The sip plays down the energy of the nose, as darker roast with nutty undertones offers a lean counter to the lighter body.”

pFriem Family Brewers Cold Brew Coffee Barrel Aged Stout

“Dark-roast cold-brew with cream in the aroma, carrying through into the flavor. Slightly astringent; roast-coffee note lingers into the finish with unsweetened chocolate. Pleasant warmth accompanies each sip.”

Sidras Bereziartua Sagardoak Bereziartura

“Great nose: _Brett_-like goaty funk, earthy, leathery with hints of cinnamon. Dry, well-crafted with funky complexity and nice depth.”

The Lost Abbey Noble Tendencies

Bright, pale gold with good lace. Pleasant, floral nose; earthy-spicy hops meld with clean, sweet, vanilla-like malt. Perfumey. Flavor is malty up front—soft, sweetish, easygoing—with gentle bitterness that is part of the whole. Medium-dry finish. Aromatic, soft, helles-like. Sweet malt and spicy hops linger. Nice beer.
