Chapman Crafted Ballad of the Barrels

What the brewers say

Imperial stout aged in Buffalo Trace barrels.

What our panel thought

Sweet vanillin nose with bourbon and light chocolate. The dark fruits jump across the palate with notes of cherry, raisin, and dates. Well-balanced levels of sweetness and roast. A bit of soy sauce and sherry notes. Chocolate on the finish.

What our editors thought

A present nose eschews intrigue and plays all its cards up front—bourbon, brown sugar, leather. The sip of-fers a few more layers, with a bright bite that immediately flows into a subtle woody and chocolate barrel note.
