What the brewers say

"Thoughtfully selected and blended to achieve our goals."

What our panel thought

"Massive dark chocolate and barrel aroma; toasted marshmallow, dark cherry, and oily peanut-butter notes. In flavor, sweetness and intensity all around—lots of chocolate, vanilla, and roast. Over-the-top but tasty."

What our editors thought

"Endless depths of dark malt and espresso; creamy caramel and Nutella around the edges. The sip wraps nutty caramel midtones in huge roasted bass tones."

Finback BA The Hawk & Whale

Aromas of vanilla, caramel, coffee, chocolate, almond, roast malt, and bourbon-like oak notes up front. The flavor profile is much of the same with a bit more assertive oak character than the aroma with notes of vanil-la, caramel, and toasted marshmallow. The barrel qualities pair well with the base beer, and there’s a beauti-ful finish of chocolate, smoke, spice, and lingering, chewy sweetness. Noticeably alcoholic without being over-ly harsh. Fantastic complexity throughout. Definitely something to savor.

Perennial Artisan Ales Maman 2018

Lucious notes of chocolate and bourbon jump out instantly on the aroma, which flows perfectly into a chewy-bodied stout full of smooth chocolate bourbon cake. The base beer holds up excellently against the aging and blends the barrel character in expertly. Delicate spices dance over waves of sheeting chocolate while riding the line of overtly sweet. Finishes out fairly dry.

Side Project Brewing Coexpressionalism Blauw

Good blackberry, blueberry aroma—blueberry cobbler comes to mind. Fruit is paired with a bit of delicately spiced graham cracker. Flavor is drier than expected from the nose, losing some of the malt and shifting the balance to the tart and slightly bitter fruit. Medium acidity and mild earth funk. Dry, puckering finish.
