Metazoa Brewing Hoppopotamus

What the brewers say

"A burst of floral bitterness from the Citra and Mosaic hops is balanced by a soft sweetness."

What our panel thought

"Tropical mango, passion-fruit aroma; soft edges of grapefruit, caramel, pine. High hop bitterness with floral, piney flavor, balanced by light caramel sweetness—a harmonious malt cushion. Clean finish, nothing to trouble more gulps. Standout IPA in retro form."

What our editors thought

"Subtle orange-and-tangerine nose, pleasant sweetness. Sip brings sharp bitterness—bold hit leaves nothing to the imagination, settling into a familiar citrus rhythm that fades into pith and zest, steering clear of sweet."

Three Taverns Brewery Bringing The Juice | Formation 2

“Aroma of guava, pineapple, lemon, and nectarine. Complex, vibrant, explosive. Those aromas carry through into the flavor, balanced by a light earthy-cedar note. The body is soft and silky and the bitterness restrained.”

Resident Culture Causal Continuum

Tropical-fruit nose with a bit of cedar and coconut. Lively mouthfeel with pleasant tropical-fruit flavors. Pret-ty standard NEIPA. Bright sweet finish feels a bit heavy but makes up for it in flavor profile. Feels like there is some lactose in there.

New Holland Brewing Company Mad Hatter

**Aroma:** “Beautiful fruit complexity (mango, passion fruit, pineapple, and banana) with just a touch of malty caramel and hints of honey. Moderate pine-tar resin, moderate earthy, very light floral. Strong citrus zest up front with some pine and malt sweetness thrown in for a nice effect.” **Flavor:** “All of the fruity suggestions of the aroma are manifested in the juicy flavor. A delicate malt sweetness complements the fruit, and an unobtrusive but entirely sufficient, bitterness supplies balance. A wonderful play of hops and malt. The orange zest front works well with the biscuit maltiness, giving the nice complexity to this beer.” **Overall:** “This is an excellent example of what neo-IPA can be. If you say you don’t like IPA, try this fun beer. You might now. Almost more of a barleywine with the sweetness levels and complexity of the malt. If you’re in the mood for a complex malty beer with a fair bit of hops, this is it. A delicious IPA that uses the malt as skillfully as it uses the hops to craft an incredibly fine beer.”
