Brooklyn Brewery Bel Air

What the brewers say

“Our sour ale starts up with bright notes of tropical fruit yet finishes crisp and gently tart.”

What our panel thought

“Fresh pine, grapefruit, lemon, lime-zest, and bitter orange-peel notes. Citrus-forward flavors, light sweetness, and gentle acidity are a perfect canvas for the delicate complexities of the hops. Enough of a tart punch for those who crave sours, and enough hops complexity for the IPA lover—brings the best of both worlds in one package.”

What our editors thought

“Layered floral nose evokes chrysanthemum and poinsettia—leaf, stem, and flower. The sip offers more fruit flavor, with pomegranate notes and only a light touch of acidity.”

Brooklyn Brewery Bel Air Sour

“A wonderfully aromatic beer that gives the impression of a fruit addition despite its lack thereof. Likely hops-derived aromatics of apple, pear, peach, lemon, passion fruit, and tangerine. The fruit aromas give way to a tart, yet refreshingly flavorful beer. Stone-fruit flavors of peach, apricot, and plum are clean and refreshing with the lactic tartness. The souring aspects of this beer masterfully complement the hops profile to create a truly complex and synergistic beer. A great combination of bright, distinct flavors.”

West Sixth Brewing Sixfold VI: Blackberries

Ripe blackberry nose with additional layers of oak and cherries atop an underlying barnyard Brett character. Well-balanced mouthfeel. Initial jammy berry flavor quickly overtaken by strong oak, which becomes dominant. A wood beer with fruit flavor.

Green Bench Brewing Co. India Pale Ale

__Aroma:__ “Blueberry, strawberry, pineapple, orange, lemon, mango, pine, and herbal are all well blended and pleasant. Light bready and bread-crust malt, almost like a flour tortilla.” __Flavor:__ “Well balanced with significant fruit character from the hops. Citrus and red berry with a touch of mango and grassy/herbal to top things off. The malt is clean and supporting as it brings a slight toasted bready character. Bitterness lingers with a touch of coating sweetness.” __Overall:__ “Nice berry-forward fruity aroma with some supporting citrus and grassy. Maybe a bit sweet up front, but the bitterness balances it well and isn’t harsh at all. All of the pieces fit together well. Very drinkable.”
