Beachwood Blendery Coolship Chaos

What the brewers say

"Inspired by the Belgian lambic tradition, spontaneously fermented and aged in oak barrels."

What our panel thought

"Lemon and white grape up front with a bit of wet-hay funk coming in behind it. More barnyard funk comes through in the flavor with a bit of wet stone. Very well-balanced between the fruit character and the funk. Acidity is high up front but not harsh or overwhelming. It fades into a somewhat soft and dry finish. Complex in a nuanced way."

What our editors thought

"More spare and Calvinist in execution, this dry sour presents a wet-concrete funk initially... grapefruit."

Beachwood Blendery Coolship Chaos with Pinot Noir

“Light, refreshing, and fun with a sophisticated edge. Grapes add a beautiful color. Tannic structure avoids astringency, and a light fruitiness on the finish is still bone dry.”

Beachwood Blendery Funk Yeah

A wonderful complementary blend of barnyard funk, assertive tartness, and acidic sourness. Aromas of leather, horse blanket, stone fruits, and oak are just as complex in flavor as they are in the nose. Flavors of grapefruit, peach, wet hay, leather, and horse blanket are all wonderfully expressed within the oak-derived tannic canvas. This beer is supremely complex and full of life with every nuanced aspect equally present and accounted for. Phenomenal!

Oud Beersel Oude Gueze Vielle

“Fantastic start to finish. Leads with a beautiful nose with hints of black pepper and peach. Lots of interesting funk and fruit, along with a moderate lactic sourness. Layers of fermentation complexity without overly weird rough edges. Tart cherry and lemon, with some notes of papaya and guava. The funk skews toward wet hay with some light leather lingering in the finish. The base beer is still there to provide a soft grainy backdrop, and the finish has a soft tartness that accentuates the farmhouse character through the swallow. Incredible, an amazing beer.”
