Hoppin’ Frog Brewery Double Barrel B.O.R.I.S.

What the brewers say

"Aged in hand-selected special bourbon whiskey barrels and finished in port-wine barrels."

What our panel thought

"Rich aroma: nuts, whiskey, dark fruit, woody-vanilla, coconut. Big caramel sweetness in flavor dovetails with roast and hop bitterness. Thick, fluffy, syrupy body."

What our editors thought

"Dark cocoa, red wine, and light char. Sturdy, broad-shouldered sip, rich but not sweet, cohesive despite varied flavors. Firm, rounded tobacco bitterness lingers deep into the smooth finish. Luxurious."

Crooked Stave Artisan Beer Project Continuum II

“Aroma is an intense blast of dark chocolate, peanuts, caramel, vanilla, and molasses. The sip brings notes of dark chocolate, crème brûlée, vanilla, cherries, blueberries, and plums. Thick, viscous body. Very sweet, but not quite cloying.”

Squatters Outer Daarrgness

Rich goodness on the nose: rum, but plenty of raisin, maple, dates, and plum. The taste hits those notes but adds vanilla and roast malt, plus a touch of black malt. The alcohol is warming and a little boozy without too much retronasal burn.

Toppling Goliath Brewing Norseman's Wrath

Dank, assertive hops with lurking citrus and dark fruit. Rich, smooth, sweet malt blast—dark dried cherries, molasses, chocolate. Hop-driven flavor knocks off your Nikes.
