Amalgam Brewing Another Realm

What the brewers say

"Imperial stout aged in Blaum Bros. and Old Fitzgerald barrels."

What our panel thought

"Subdued but complex nose: whiskey, chocolate-covered roast nuts, dark candied fruit, toffee. Huge and viscous on the palate—rich chocolate, caramel, stewed apples, cherry stem. Incredibly complex."

What our editors thought

"Dark chocolate, hazelnut, vanilla, and coconut hints in the nose, pie crust. Thickly layered dark fruit—prune, fig, dried apple—brightened by citrus-zest twang."

Amalgam Brewing Other Realms

Bourbon nose with chocolate-covered cherries. A blend of chocolates with an underlying bourbon layer coats the palate. Soft and velvety with pillows of bourbon-filled chocolate and cherry truffles. A touch on the sweet side, but enough malt to back it up.

Amalgam Underground Breakfast

This is at least 500 yards of velvet goodness. Coffee, maple, and vanilla blend very nicely in the aroma. Taste is the same, very smooth, velvety, and big. This one is hard to put down. As it warms, it gets even better. The barrel aspect comes out in the finish—some char to help balance the sweetness. Mouthfeel has a very silky texture. This is a beer we would gladly enjoy in a coffee mug while camping or hanging out by a fire late at night. Not overtly sweet, this can be a full glass of fun.

Parish Brewing Rêve Coffee Stout

Chocolate syrup aroma, dark-fruit coffee notes. Smooth, round body; coffee coats layers of chocolate, vanilla, cherries. Complex coffee character, ashy edges. Roast meets sweetness.
