What the brewers say

"A mixed-culture fermentation barrel-aged in Merlot barrels with freshly pressed Merlot grapes."

What our panel thought

"Nose is an amazing amalgam of barrel, barnyard funk, low must, ripening fruit. Light Brett funk plays well with the character from the Merlot grapes. Flavor follows suit but extends the complexity. Moderate lactic acidity dances on top of the tannins."

What our editors thought

"Punchy and clean wild fermentation is bright with a savory red-grape note. The tannins offer a drying bite that brings out some of the latent beer bitterness. Finishes bone-dry with a lingering general wine-grape note."
