What the brewers say

“Bourbon barrel–aged in Brazilian amburana wood.”

What our panel thought

“Spicy nose, hints of cinnamon, light oak, vanilla. Leaves a Mexican-chocolate impression throughout. Flavor includes some capsicum, chocolate, light coffee. Somewhat thin body highlights the spice and unusual wood.”

What our editors thought

“Subtle cinnamon-spice aroma with supporting caramel tones. Dries out in the flavor as the spice and tannins buffer the caramel sweetness.”

Urban Roots Brewing & Smokehouse Demons Run Barrel Select - Amburana

“Big aroma with chocolate pecan pie and sandalwood candles mixed with bourbon. Gooey, clover honey mixed with fudge, chamomile, eau de vie, which is a sentence I never thought I would write. Soft, seductive, subtle flavors play against wood spiciness.”

Mikerphone Brewing Amburana

“Cold brew roasted coffee overwhelms any other subtle aromatics. The initial sip is a nice blend of intensely bitter roasted coffee and chocolate sweetness with the bitterness of the coffee slowly fading and allowing some caramel, vanilla, and custard-like notes to emerge as things fade into the finish. The alcoholic heat is not hiding but lends a smooth runway for the beer to land upon and remain drinkable even with the ABV.”
