Poison City Brewing Sad Devotion to Ancient Religion

What the brewers say

“Roasty, dark biscuit, subtle coffee and chocolate notes.”

What our panel thought

“Bit of roast plays second fiddle to strong pine-floral-herbal hop aroma; slight diesel, grassy. Light caramel backed by moderate coffee and cocoa. Finish is a touch sweet. Hop bitterness holds on a bit too long.”

What our editors thought

“Bold floral, earthy hop note balances darker bitter chocolate. In the sip, sweet dark caramel strikes first, followed by a swift parry from mildly bitter hops. Cool and distant.”

The Brewer's Table Theseus

Intriguing nose is complex and pleasant, but decidedly weird for a Pilsner. Hints of stone fruit, coconut, and peach. Very light body, like champagne given the high carbonation. You could be convinced that this was barrel-aged for a short time given the hints of background wood character.

Indio Brewing Co 1-2-3 Kid

“Soft, subtle aroma of passion fruit, pink grapefruit, navel orange, pineapple. Big fruit flavors on the palate—red grapefruit and Hi-C fruit punch really jump out, surprising the taste buds. Pleasant mimosa-like sourness, OJ-forward. Well-rounded and flavorful. Well executed.”

Prison City Brewery Riot in Maine

Hints of peach, pineapple, and passion fruit complement the distinct citrus- and pine-forward hops aromas. The soft mouthfeel and subtle malt sweetness are a nice canvas on which to express the tangerine, lemon, and pine hops flavors, with hints of onion, green pepper, and garlic. The alcohol is sneaky but present, with a faint note of boozy warmth.
