Westbound & Down Solera Saison + Dry Hop

What the brewers say

N/A

What our panel thought

"Big hops up front: grapefruit, pineapple, orange, pine. Also spicy melon, esters mingling and complementing fruit-forward hops. Some astringent bitterness in finish. Flavor has orange, banana peel, bready malt, grassy hop. Lively."

What our editors thought

"Bright, modern hops nose—citrus, white wine, strawberry—with a gauzy sheen. Less fruity than many, with a defined Brett peppery note and hop bitterness."

Perennial Artisan Ales Hainaut

Bright gold with lush foam and lace. Bright Noble-hop aroma, spicy and grassy, with Sprite-like lemon-lime notes and clean, bready malt. Soft smoke-and-spice phenolics. Soft, light, grainy flavor, with simple but pleasant herbal-grassy bitterness and notes of pepper and light fruit. Lively. Fairly bitter. Dry finish with lingering pepper-spice. Tastes like a well-made pilsner given an expressive fermentation. Very nice.

Wolf's Ridge Brewing Terre du Sauvage Blue

Aroma is woody, herbal, and a touch medicinal. Intense and weird. Even weirder—it’s not off-putting. Sweet-tangy balance, lemony, with a bitterish, cooling, leafy-minty stripe running through the flavor. Just off dry, with lingering tang and cool menthol. Damned interesting and pretty drinkable.

Sante Adairius Rustic Ales Saison Bernice

Fairly aggressive pineapple-like sourness from aroma through first sip; floral notes, white wine, pepper. Acidity borders on harsh; some white grape juice flavor rides into the finish.
