New Anthem Brewing Songs Unsung

What the brewers say

Pithy tropical grapefruit. Pale malt, oats. Galaxy and Citra.

What our panel thought

The appearance of this beer begs the name to have the word ‘cloud’ in it. Deep golden haze with a billowy head. Wonderful nose with a blend of citrus and tropical fruits. Compelling flavor profile filled with a blend of orange, peach, pineapple, and guava. Soft pillowy body with a more assertive finish that brings some bitterness to the table to scrub the palate for another sip. Slight hops burn. Pretty awesome beer for which we would gladly regularly reserve a spot in our fridge.

What our editors thought

A vividly intense grapefruit-meets-kiwi nose jumps out of the glass with a rarely found confidence and intensity of hops flavor. The sip matches the bold character of the nose, with a hint of dank diesel and asphalt, giving shape to the strong fruit notes. It’s deftly balanced at maximum volume—a gorgeous achievement.

New Anthem Beer Project Clapback

Solid grapefruit, lime, tangerine, lychee, bright orange aroma. Light grassy hints. Extra orange in the flavor, creating impression of heavily hopped OJ—with gentle pine and vegetal notes. Solid malt flavor and sweetness balance hops well. Smooth, approachable bitterness, medium-full body. Breakfast, anyone?

Hop Butcher Run to Daylight

Holy wow on the nose—smells like freshly squeezed OJ, almost one-dimensional but in a good way. Lots of orange, complex orange, and it doesn’t seem artificial. Might be even bigger in the flavor, like an Orange Julius. Alcohol is present but not distracting. Moderate sweetness up front supports the fruit, while moderate bitterness keeps it in balance. Finish is fairly abrupt and clean. One couldn’t drink several pints because then one couldn’t walk, but one would want to try. One of the best IPAs ever.

Tree House Beer Company Haze

**Aroma:** “Lots of juicy notes on this nose. Dank and resinous hops aroma. Mild malt and moderate esters. Huge orange aromas with lemon citrus complexities. Slight malt sweetness underneath.” **Flavor:** “Beautifully integrated flavors that range from lemon juicy notes to pineapple and mango. Very big hops flavor, expanding on that resinous spiciness in the nose to add some grapefruit notes. Rich but soft bitterness that lasts for days, like a dark-roast coffee. Big and chewy. Massive orange notes with some underlying complexity tasting of grapefruit and lemon. Finishes slightly bitter, begging another sip.” **Overall:** “Turbid and chewy body showcases the complex hops profile with excellent execution. The hops juiciness is paramount and carries through the beer. This beer tastes like breakfast (beer-mosa anyone?). Perfect for a weekend brunch.”
