Odell Brewing Hammer Chain

What the brewers say

Brewed with freshly ground whole-flower hops that bring notes of drippy tropical fruit, radiant peach, and sweet stone fruit.

What our panel thought

Inviting pine, orange, tangerine, and grapefruit hops aromas with subtle hints of green onion, strawberry, and passion fruit. The flavor is a balance of subtle caramel-malt sweetness and bitter hops-derived flavors of peach, tangerine, light resin, and subtle herbal notes. The finish is dry and bitter, but not harsh or astringent, with a mouth-coating nature.

What our editors thought

Orange, lime, and kiwi suggest sweetness on the aroma, and the flavor follows through with equal parts sweet fruit and palate-cleansing bitterness, for a remarkably balanced and enveloping beer that splits the dif-ference between dominant styles.

Crooked Stave Citra Exploratory

Brilliant light orange haze. Right out of the gate, it hits on all the right notes from front to back. Intriguing clean citrus and tropical-juice bomb highlighting pineapple. Vibrant mouthfeel with layers of pineapple and orange and a full and refreshing finish.

Triptych And I Think My Spaceship Knows Which Way To Go

Grapefruit, tangerine, onion, green pepper—diesel and garlic as it warms. Light malt flavor; sweetness complements bitterness and flavors of tangerine, pineapple, guava. Light must and subtle mushroom emerge. Finishes on the bitter side.

Hop Butcher Weirdsmobile

Aroma: “Calling all hopheads! Hops aroma is forefront with a lot of cantaloupe, mango, peach, pineapple, lemongrass, and herbal. Orange and tangerine come through after the initial hops. Behind that there’s some bready malt and a bit of black pepper.” Flavor: “Dankness, passion fruit, pine, pithy orange, and lemon peel, touch of peppery phenolics. High bitterness is compounded by the expected bone-dry finish. Balance is all about the IBUs in this one. Some saison character is hiding under massive hops burst.” Overall: “Super-inviting dank and fruity nose leads to a mouth-puckering bitterness. While hops aroma blends nicely with the more subtle yeast character, some may find the bitterness a bit much for such a light beer.”
