Sketchbook Brewing Night Game

What the brewers say

This DIPA, brewed with Mosiac hops and honey, offers up the intense tropical-fruit flavors of pineapple and grapefruit with a smooth lingering finish of soft honey.

What our panel thought

Classic American DIPA with rich citrus and pine hops character and a caramel-malt profile. A bit sweet on balance, but enough bitterness keeps things mostly in check. Warming, rich. A well-made version of the style, but missing some brightness and definition to make it stand out in the crowd.

What our editors thought

A soft and slightly sweet grapefruit nose segues into a softly bitter sip that allows the sweet fruit notes to shine.

Sketchbook Brewing Insufficient Clearance

Sort of an old-school take on a new-school hazy, this beer delivers grapefruit and pineapple aromas with a bitter, easy-drinking, lower ABV mouthfeel. Session-style with a firm, bitter edge.

Sketchbook Brewing Day Game

Punchy citrus-tropical aroma—mango, blood orange, pineapple, lemon. Flavor leans sweet, with tangy, medium bitterness and low piney-hop character. Finishes fairly dry and clean; just a light rubbery note. Bright, pleasant, drinkable, if somewhat one-dimensional.

Boulder Beer Company Pulp Fusion Blood Orange IPA

__Aroma:__ “Distinct orange aroma coupled with subtle notes of floral and fruit orchard. Foresty hops aromas that are earthy and rich. Caramel, biscuit, and toasted malt offer sweetness, with hints of molasses and stone fruit.” __Flavor:__ “The malt sweetness and esters stand out first, giving the beer a Bit-O-Honey character. Then the orange, which has the bitter qualities of the rind but is strongest in the aftertaste. Hops earthiness and floral notes, with a mellow bitterness and spiciness. The body is a little thin, and none of the fruity flavors linger long after the sip.” __Overall:__ “The fruit enhances an otherwise middle-of-the-road IPA, and overall the beer is balanced, if restrained. The fruit is well-matched to the beer, but the beer is missing some complexity that would separate it from the crowd. The sweetness of the malt is more pronounced than the delicate taste of the citrus.”
