Resident Culture Comparison Is the Thief Of Joy

What the brewers say

"Mixed-culture ale... refermented on... strawberries."

What our panel thought

"Rich strawberry takes on character of peach, mango, nectarine. Unexpected tropical quality. Assertively tart. This much fruit gives an almost chewy richness. Lingering funk shows a bit of earthy rot. Is this good? Yes."

What our editors thought

"Strawberries transform into a panoply of tropical fruit in the nose. The sip forgoes expected sweetness for earth, bread, and rich strawberry."

REVIEWS FOR YOU >

Hacienda Beer Co. Insatiable Dreams Strawberry

Distinct strawberry in nose, hints of barnyard and armpit. Fruit character shifts to sour red wine on first sip; aggressive tartness, followed by Brett, wood, earth. Bracing finish, missing brighter fruit to balance wilder fermentation character.

Wooden Robot Saison de Peche

Low sulfur, light minerality in nose; notes of white grape, pear, herbs. Bright, tart acidity in flavor; a touch toward vinegar. Malt sweetness of biscuit and wheat in finish, but acidity trails quite a while, building.

Scratch Brewing Company Strawberry Sumac

Strawberries blend with a sweet, fruity/spicy malt character, suggesting a Belgian golden. Nicely balanced acid and fruit. The flavor stays harmonious, offering a light tart lemony balance to the strawberry sweetness and pulling along some peach. Each sip brings more depth from everything but the strawberries, whether it's a spicy tingle or citrus brightness. Lingers nicely.
