Prison City Double Doink

What the brewers say

"The hop profile in this DIPA is kicked up by Enigma, Simcoe, and Citra hops, providing tropical flavors that are hard to miss."

What our panel thought

"Ripe tropical fruit basket: guava, mango, pineapple, papaya. Dominant tropical hop flavor, though less intense than expected; undertones of spicy pepper, light oak. Mouthfeel a bit thin. Finishes mostly dry, some harsher finishing notes, alcohol lingering a bit."

What our editors thought

"Berry and fleshy passion fruit on the nose; glimpses of berry-tannins and spice—oddly Pinot Noir-like. Sip wavers back toward tropical fruit/sweet/bitter, lean with flashes of sweet."

King Harbor Brewing Co AJ's Hotel Business

“Weedy profile connects with supporting cast of woody-earthy-soil in fresh pellet form. Confident approach and overall soft balance allow hops to shine. Bitterness has an astringency that lets the beer down. Some alcohol burn. A bit too harsh in the finish.”

Foothills Brewing Seeing Double

Moderate orange-pineapple-pine aroma; light floral, grassy notes. Moderate malt sweetness—bready, caramel, honey—with firm bitterness not quite cutting the sweetness. Spicy, grassy hop flavors with lower orange-citrus.

Prison City Brewing Seward's Folly

Fresh, vibrant hop aroma: lemon, orange, grapefruit, and light pine with underlying cracker/bread malt. Flavor is more balanced, moderate, with light toast and cracker malt balancing citrus, pine, and lemongrass hops. Drab mouthfeel, somewhat lifeless. Dry finish. Refreshing.
