Urban South Glimmer of Hops

What the brewers say

"Tons of sweet melon, citrus, and tropical passion fruit dominate this beer."

What our panel thought

"Bright, complex aroma: peach, candied orange, lemon, passion fruit, subtle pine in the background. That carries into flavor, with intense sweetness balanced by plenty of bitterness—distinct but not harsh. Heavy citric notes play into dryness of finish. Canned tropical sunshine."

What our editors thought

"Soft white cake and frosting in the nose with glimpses of citrus. The sip is sweet and bold, with woody vanilla-citrus notes and a well-placed bitterness running through it. Intriguing in its complexity."

Idle Hands Craft Ales Raspberry Torte

“Roast malt, dark chocolate, and coffee notes punctuated by an earthy nondescript berry note in the nose. Expresses as tart, underripe raspberry in the sip, accentuating the dryness and bitterness of both the roasted malt and hops. Light vanilla-like sweetness in the finish.”

Salty Nut Brewery Make Stout Great Again

**Aroma:** “Notes of chocolate up front, with some creamy milk sweetness. The roast malt dominates on the nose, with a tart black-cherry ester and slight clove. It’s roasty, earthy, and oaky, with tobacco and a campfire smokiness.” **Flavor:** “Burned roast hits up front, and the roasty malt character carries through the sip. Some milk and chocolate sweetness sit behind the roast, with notes of licorice, cherries, plum, and other dark fruits. It’s a very earthy beer with fruity esters potentially from the hops, but for sure from the roast. Notes of oak, pine, and the big hops bitterness leads to a dry finish. The body is a bit thin.” **Overall:** “Overall, it’s a ‘punch you in the mouth’ kind of stout that delivers on a roast-forward presence. The more I drank, the more it grew on me. The roast has a finesse with some evident fruit flavors, in both aroma and flavor, but the burned characteristics really shone through. Reminded me of sitting at a campfire on a cold winter night, with ashes flying and coals burning.”

Neshaminy Creek Brewing Company The Shape Of Hops To Come

**Aroma:** “Medium intensity orange and lemon with a slight sweetness from the malt. Nice fruity hops sweetness. Orange, grapefruit, pineapple, tropical fruit, with a quick hit of Christmas tree.” **Flavor:** “Medium malt sweetness accentuated by citrus hops notes. Malt tastes like a blend of toasted and caramel varieties. Intensely bitter on the finish—the bitterness from the hops hits in the front and carries through this beer well into the linger. Fresh and vibrant mango and pineapple notes dance with pine tree and green herbs. Light malt sweetness in the finish, too.” **Overall:** “It’s a touch sweet up front and a touch bitter on the finish making for a pretty bold and bitter beer that should probably be enjoyed at a warmer serving temp to bring out the fruity hop notes. It was quite bitter in the start, but the more I drank it more the rest of the beer came out for me. In the end, I enjoyed it.”
