Hop Butcher Halogen Farm

What the brewers say

Vic Secret– and Simcoe-hopped.

What our panel thought

Dank, piney, and lightly citrus hops aromas give the impression that this will deliver a hops punch; it doesn’t disappoint. Subtle malt sweetness tempers the assertive hops-derived bitterness. The quite-present aggres-sive hops notes of citrus, green pepper, green onion, and some subtle tropical notes are not altogether harsh. The bitterness lingers in the finish more so than most, and the mild alcoholic warmth seems to accentuate them.

What our editors thought

Cucumber, juniper, lychee, kiwi—a refreshing cocktail of tropical deep cuts and quirky fresh hooks. On the tongue, it builds and drops in quick succession, with high-key mild, bitter, and herbal notes exploding into big tropical washes. Deliciously intense.

Hop Butcher For the World Tavern King

“Aroma of tangerine, orange, mango—a bit muted. Full body, almost chewy; hops tailored well for higher malt flavor. Notes of orange, tangerine, grapefruit, white peach, lychee, mango. Nice bitterness overall. Finishes a touch sweet but balances well; citrus-forward. Delicious. Hides its strength. Great drinkability.”

Hop Butcher Run to Daylight

Holy wow on the nose—smells like freshly squeezed OJ, almost one-dimensional but in a good way. Lots of orange, complex orange, and it doesn’t seem artificial. Might be even bigger in the flavor, like an Orange Julius. Alcohol is present but not distracting. Moderate sweetness up front supports the fruit, while moderate bitterness keeps it in balance. Finish is fairly abrupt and clean. One couldn’t drink several pints because then one couldn’t walk, but one would want to try. One of the best IPAs ever.

Sixpoint Undefined Variable

Aroma: Slightly dank, piney, pineapple, orange/tangerine, slight lemon, grapefruit, coconut. Flavor: Tropical notes of pineapple, mango, and lemon with some subtle coconut. Slightly dank & earthy (green onion). Subtle pine notes. Finishes dry and crisp and subtly bitter. Slightly mineral/metallic. A bit chalky. Overall: A bit muddled complexity of aromas and flavors. There is a lot going on, but the aromas/flavors seem to compete rather than collaborate.
