Iron Hill Brewery Philly Special IPA

What the brewers say

NEIPA brewed with flaked oats and wheat. Intense flavors and aromas of tropical fruit and resinous pine dominate.

What our panel thought

A touch on the lighter side of haze. Hits on more of the stone-fruit aromas with some pineapple seeping through. A bit too sweet and heavy over the mouth with a lingering dark-fruit character in the background. Big sweet finish that falls off toward being dry.

What our editors thought

The nectarine-and-tangerine smoothie nose is creamy and inviting while the sip is equal parts light pithy bit-terness and soft fruit. Bright and punchy.

Jagged Mountain Brewery Texas Suitcase

“Subdued aroma of mild orange peel, soft pine resin, guava, light pilsner malt sweetness. The flavor continues the same trajectory with biscuit and pie crust, black pepper, anise, grapefruit peel, light resin, and grass. Malt sweetness helps showcase bitterness in the finish.”

Pinthouse Brewing Tommy Try Mosaic

“Orange peel, tangerine, light pine and grass, papaya, pineapple on the nose. Hop flavor dominates with orange/lemon peel, tangerine, light lime zest, hints of pine, black pepper. Firm bitterness.”

AleSmith Brewing Company AleSmith IPA

__Aroma:__ “Peach, lemon, tangerine, and piney up front. A bit of herbal, grassy, floral, and pineapple in the background. Toasty/bready malt is bigger than I’d expect.” __Flavor:__ “Simple malt bill with a touch of toasted character plays second fiddle to the light colored citrus hops (orange, grapefruit, lemon). Some earthy spice notes as well hit in the middle of the taste. Balance is great for the style, though a bit under-carbonated. Bitterness is present but not overwhelming.” __Overall:__ “Peach up front with a more classic West Coast IPA aroma in the background. Good balance of malt sweetness and assertive bitterness. Well-made beer.”
