Silver City Brewery Sultry Siren

What the brewers say

Barrel-aged raspberry sour ale.

What our panel thought

Raspberry, blackberry, medicinal cherry, and black currant notes jump from the glass. Juicy, ripe-blackberry flavor. Low, lingering sweetness helps to balance the pleasant but somewhat sharp sourness. What if Luden's cough drops were sour candies? Clean, dry finish with low astringency. Reasonably fun to smell and sip; a bit tough to drink.

What our editors thought

Luxurious dark berry nose with layers of juicy fruit. The sip is a touch thinner, leaning toward Lambrusco with a compelling red-fruit-meets-wine-grape element. Fruit-focused, simple, and thoughtfully executed.

Black Lung Brewing Company Haunted Hurst

“Bright, fruity tropical notes in the nose of guava, mango, orange, pineapple are balanced by hints of pine, onion, and cedar. Carries all the way through the flavor. Firm bitterness. Balanced between tropical fruit and earthy notes, all within a soft malty body.”

Indeed Brewing Co Day Tripper Pale Ale

“The dank pine hops in both the aroma and taste are accompanied by a touch of peppery spice. Malt balances the aroma, with some toasted whole-grain bread. The flavor also brings in some earthy notes and bright resinous pine in the initial sip and especially the finish. Light, lingering toast in finish.”

Aspen Brewing Company Silver City Ale

**Aroma:** “A touch soapy on the nose, with some tart lactic notes. Some apple sweetness sits in the back, with light malt sweetness and a touch of honey. Hints of tartness could be there, but they’re very light. A floral aroma conbined with a very slight spicy pine note.” **Flavor:** “Moderate graininess up front. Light body is a bit thin but refreshing. Very slight tartness with some dry apple-like fruit notes, akin to a dry cider with a crisp finish. Medium carbonation and light body, with some malty biscuit notes that balance the tartness. Light and subtle lactic sour toward the end of the sip that lingers longer than expected.” **Overall:** “Very pronounced grain and roasty character up front and a sweet and slightly salty mix going on. The delicate apple notes provide some crisp sweetness throughout. It’s very drinkable, light, and refreshing.”
