Cerebral Brewing Last Scion

What the brewers say

Barrel-aged dark sour with spent Viognier, apricot, nectarine, and radish honey.

What our panel thought

Inviting nose, tart and vinous—dark fruit, a touch of malty sweetness, hints of roast, subtle medicinal note—and slightly jammy like a big Cab. Flavor is a touch piney, with strong but nicely judged acidity. Notes of meyer lemon lend a sweet impression. Low flavors of dark cherries and apricots. Lively mouthfeel, finishing tart and dry, leaving pleasant wine-like tannins. I want this with a big, marbled, dry-aged ribeye.

What our editors thought

Earthy hops, dark chocolate, and a curious coffee note punctuate the nose, with a touch of vinous character. The sip is lighter and thinner than the setup suggests, with sour tropical fruit notes in the fore—lychee, yuzu—followed by a warming sweeter malt that's quickly scrubbed by soft, lingering bitterness. Unexpected and thoughtful.

Dankhouse Feelin' Berry Good

“Jammy, inviting aromas of fresh raspberry and blackberry are pie filling–like. No subtle notes here. Blackberry dominates with the raspberry bringing up the rear. The tartness and fresh flavors of the berries are well integrated into the light acidity of the base beer. The flavors are as fresh as the aroma. Beautiful in appearance, aroma, and flavor. Thick hazy purple hue sucks you in and brings you back for more: incredibly drinkable.”

Cerebral Brewing Hereditary Title

Aroma of bright lemon, orange peel, lime pith, and peach, with subtle wine-grape and light funk. Boldly acidic with bright citrus, heightening the experience but obscuring other fruity aromatics. Vinous notes emerge for a dry finish.

Revelry Brewing Cake Killah

Light chocolate-cinnamon aroma, with chiles and espresso. Malt-forward flavor—bittersweet chocolate, light cinnamon, moderate chile. Rich roasted-malt complexity, with a drying pepper heat.
