Migration Straight Outta Portland

What the brewers say

Bright West Coast IPA that jumps off the glass with big tropical juicy aromatics and crisp finish.

What our panel thought

Medium strong hops aromas, grassy, herbal, with a light berry note. Malt aroma lightly toasted, supportive. Hops bitterness firm, clean, and crisp. Malt flavor lightly caramel and toasted. Plenty of hops, but the firm malt body carries the day, providing a broad canvas that carries all the way through the flavor. The semisweet malt lingers long into the aftertaste.

What our editors thought

Crisp peach and fennel notes on the nose offer a curious expression that avoids one-note clichés. The sip is similarly clean and direct, with an immediate medium bitter note that fades into lingering peach and peach-skin notes.

Unsung Brewing Company Let it In

“Loads of garlic, onion, and green pepper burst out of the aroma with some undertones of pine and light dankness. Citrus, melon, pine, and dank bring back San Diego memories. A brief, initial malty sweetness is quickly cut by the piney, citrus, and onion-like bitterness, which leads to a lightly bitter and mouth-coating finish.”

Breakside Brewery Wanderjack IPA

“Pine resin, green onion, ramps, pineapple in the aroma with lemongrass and orange supporting. A hint of bready malt in the background. The flavor retains a bit of onion, but the pineapple comes through even stronger. Finishes dry, clean, and bitter with a moderate dank retronasal character and a moderate, fading sweetness.”

Creature Comforts Brewing Co. Athena

“Aromatics of light citrus and subtle earthiness. Low bready wheat notes and fresh citrus tart character come together harmoniously. Drinks clean and crisp with a nice balance of pale malt, restrained acidity, and gentle mineral character. The strength of this beer is its simplicity. Its no-frills approach is refreshing and enjoyable.”
