Both beers will be can-conditioned to keep the beer fresher longer.
The can launch kicks off this week with Sweetwater 420 in 12-ounce cans. Sweetwater IPA will be available in 12-ounce cans, as well as both styles in 16-ounce tallboys, later this month.
Adding cans was a pipedream just a few years ago as the brewery struggled to keep production up with the demand for bottles and draft beer. But now that SweetWater’s expansion is complete and the canning line is running, their fans can enjoy 420 and IPA on beaches, and in parks, campsites, stadiums, and fishing holes—places where glass bottles aren’t permitted.
As breweries such as The Alchemist, Ska Brewing, Cigar City, Evil Twin, and Tallgrass Brewing have discovered, the air-tight aluminum packaging works well for Pale Ales and IPAs because the cans are impermeable to light and oxygen, reducing the chance of beers getting funky.
