Fonta Flora Brewery 2019 AWAS Blend #1

What the brewers say

"A blend of fruits and reishi mushrooms inspired by bold, funky natural red wines."

What our panel thought

"Moderate acetic acid up front with a bit of red-grape skin and earthy funk. As the acidity tempers, more red-wine grape and earthy, musty funk. A pleasant mix of light blueberry and a spicy note on the finish, with hints of wood adding structure."

What our editors thought

"Red-wine grape, oak tannin, and a vague dry fruitiness with a sherry-like musty nose. The sip is austere and dry with a bright red berry, jammy note."

TRVE Brewing Co. Meditation is the Practice of Death

Rich fruit character, though not distinctly cherry; also Brett, wood, and earth. Lack of head suggests wine. Oak character adds pleasant light spiciness, with fruit fermentation esters; tart, with berry notes. Subtle yet complex.

pFriem Family Brewers New Avenues Blend #1

Fruit character pops out of the glass. Grapes just balance the strong berry notes. Light funk, medium acidity. The marionberry and Riesling play off each other, and the raspberry doesn’t overpower. Approachable and drinkable.

The Rare Barrel Blurred with Pinot Noir Grapes

Floral, dry Bordeaux nose mingles with light oak, licorice, and a waft of cellar-funk—restrained, overall. Flavor is decidedly vinous, with light jammy sweetness drying into an oaky finish. Alcoholic warmth doesn’t fit well, hindering drinkability. Grape-forward.
