4 Noses Brewing Company ’Bout Damn Time

What the brewers say

“West Coast IPA with bright, hoppy citrus flavors and aromas, and a crisp, assertive bitterness.”

What our panel thought

“Enticing citrus-punch nose with grapefruit, pine, and a light dank resinous note. On the palate, it’s round and well integrated—softly sweet, softly bitter, fluffed out just a bit in the body but not heavy. Light dank-citrus hop flavor is more of a suggestion. Fresh, clean, and a touch earthy.”

What our editors thought

“Warm, toasty orange notes on the nose with a touch of dried-fruit tea. The sip blends dry herbal notes with juicier citrus for a push-pull contrast that’s win-win.”

Our Mutual Friend Brewing Time’s Arrow

“Moderate diesel-and-resin hop aroma, with light tropical hints and a bit of bready malt. Golden and bright, with a head that retains well—great body and carbonation. In the mouth, the hops shift more into resinous pine, paired with a smooth, round, and slowly building bitterness, while the malt evokes biscuit and pie crust. The aroma carries through to the flavor, with rounded garlic and diesel, resin, light pineapple, and mango hop flavors, buoyed by a moderate malt sweetness that keeps things in balance. Finishes mostly dry, hops in sync with malt and bitterness, as they carry into the aftertaste and fade off at just the right time. Very pleasant.”

12 West Brewing Company Peach Frontside

“White peach, touch of diesel in the nose. A white wine–like peach flavor, like a sophisticated colada, as it warms. Velvety mouthfeel. A melange of floral, citrus, and herbal hops in the off-dry finish. A very present bitterness is slightly tempered by the soft fruity component. Complex and interesting.”

Black Spruce Brewing Company Aroma Dome

“Engaging aroma of dank weed, Juicy Fruit Bubble Gum, melon, papaya, and clove. The flavor has similar notes, combined with grapefruit and light, faintly sweet malt. The finish is melon and grapefruit, a refreshing harmony that would work nicely on a hot day. The bitterness is present, but restrained, leaving a softer finish.”
