What the brewers say

"Red Berry Sour Ale. This Sour Ale was brewed with a large amount of your favorite Sour then Sweet Candies. Taste and aroma of cherry, raspberry, and strawberry form the candies with a sweet and tart finish."

What our panel thought

"Vibrant electric orange color. Aroma of tart lemon and sweet melon with low amounts of malt aroma that lend a Saturday morning cereal quality to the beer. Watermelon and blackberry in the aroma. Sweet at the start, in a pleasant way that complements the restrained tartness well. The flavor profile is a balance of sweet and sour with neither overpowering the other. Finishes quite dry with a good aftertaste or memory of hard candy sucked into oblivion."

What our editors thought

"Faint, and vaguely synthetic green apple and raspberry aroma leads into a bracing acidity and sweetness in the sip that quickly takes the volume from one to ten. Despite the shocking fruit notes, a tannic body builds a fullness in the sip. Acidity lingers with the candy fruit notes, in the most attractive way possible."

Allusion Brewing One Inning More

“Balanced aroma featuring toasted or caramel malt, with woody, earthy hops. Some red-apple or peach aromas. Smooth malt flavor, with firm bitterness for balance. Hop flavor favors woody, subtle varieties. Lingering caramel malt flavor.”

Allusion Brewing Chasing Mavericks

“Dank buds with big resinous aroma. Sweet cereal is quickly balanced by assertive orange and grapefruit hop character. Warming alcohol and clean bitterness give this beer drinkability that is easy to revisit.”

New Belgium Brewing Transatlantique Kriek

**Aroma:** “Sweet cherry and light horse blanket with some earthy spice charac- ter and tartness.” **Flavor:** “Funky fruit character—the notes of sweet cherries with tart cherries are very present. Smooth mouthfeel from carbonation. Moderate carbonation carries the low cherry notes throughout the sip and into the linger that is medi- um lasting. Cherry note is very pleasant mixed with just the right amount of sweetness. Nice and juicy but not too sweet. The tartness is present but not overpowering and adds complexity.” **Overall:** “Very enjoyable, refreshing, and approachable. The cherry notes are well balanced but the beer overall was not quite as vibrant as others in the group. Dark fruit character and a bit of astringency. This beer is juicy, has good cherry flavor and tartness—all of which are not so overly bold to scare someone away.”
