Alma Mader Brewing Contextual

What the brewers say

Layers of malt flavor: toasted granola, dried dates, caraway, iced coffee. Fermented clean and cool.

What our panel thought

Floral and perfume-like Noble hop notes jump out from behind the roast and chocolate-malt aromas for a balanced complexity in the nose. The roast-malt character dominates a bit more in the flavor, yet the herbal hop bitterness lingers pleasantly into the finish.

What our editors thought

The light nose hides woody notes around the edges, with gentle wet forest and slightly burnt bread. The sip is somewhat heavy for such a small beer, leaning a touch too far into the roast/hop-bitterness side, but it’s a flavorful beer in a small package.

Alma Mader Brewing Premiant

Light, sweet, grainy-malt nose and bright, herbal-floral hops with notes of zest and spice. Nice round hop flavor, with gentle malt sweetness helping to push lemony-herbal notes. Clean and soft. Spicy hop finish begs more sips. Integrated and harmonious.

Flatland Brewing Company Original Recipe

Pleasant aroma: Light floral, herbal, lemony hops with slight grainy malt; lemon-lime mingles with sugar-cookie dough. Flavor: sweet, grainy malt with with light lemony-herbal hop flavor and firm, balancing bitterness. Earthy mineral-water element. Soft, light, dry, easy to drink.

Alma Mader Brewing Crispy City

“Playful nose of straw, honeysuckle, and orange blossoms. Bready, floral, herbal at the outset. The malt flavor is subdued with a bit of white bread and Cheerios. Minimal hops, but fermentation esters add complexity. Some graininess, low carbonation, and relatively high residual sugars. Sweetness balanced by herbal hops more than bitterness.”
