American Solera Old Friend - Year 7

What the brewers say

“Aged one year in white oak, then eight months in chardonnay barrels.”

What our panel thought

“Pleasant aroma, driven by soft lemony and floral notes, underpinned by a bit of light multigrain cracker. Soft tartness defines the flavor, with some white-wine impressions. A lingering bitterness, and a spiky bit of alcoholic warmth. Finish is dry and clean. Soft malt character.”

What our editors thought

“Fried plantain aroma with very slightly sweet notes, a green freshness, and deeper earthy and Maillard tones. Higher key in the sip, as mezzo-soprano citrus tones with sparkling acidity offer a pleasing lift.”

Kros Strain Brewing Company Saison 714

“White-wine nose, grapey with a hint of ginger. Soft malt notes of challah bread support. Notes of limeade and yellow Gatorade in the mouth, touch of herbal hops (fresh spearmint and soft oregano). Tart without being sour.”

Cerebral Brewing Anomaly Detection

“In the aroma, light floral and herbal hops. Hint of orange and pear. Moderate levels of fresh bread dough and bread crust. Malt flavor is mostly biscuit and pie crust with a bit of caramel. Light pear, orange, and orange-peel notes. Finish is a touch sweet. Medium- low bitterness balances.”

American Solera PSS

Bright, light, cream-soda color. Boozy eggnog aroma—cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger wrapped in bourbon vanilla. Dry flavor is surprising—sweet tart, apples, pears, white-wine grapes, high vanilla notes. Spicy bite. Finishes a touch tannic and bitter. Interesting complexity.
