Dogfish Head Craft Brewery 90 Minute Imperial IPA

What the brewers say

“An imperial IPA best savored from a snifter, 90 Minute has a great malt backbone that stands up to the extreme hopping rate. 90 Minute IPA was the first beer we continuously hopped, allowing for a pungent—but not crushing—hopS flavor. Tasting notes: brandied fruitcake, raisiny, citrusy.”

What our panel thought

Aroma: “Hops and malt compete for dominance with notes of citrus, tropical fruit, lightly roasted coffee, honey, sweet chocolate, caramel, slight spiciness. When you close your eyes and smell it, you get a darker beer.”

Flavor: “Moderate grain sweetness and straightforward hops bitterness. Fruity—starfruit, lemongrass, tropical fruit—sweetness of honey, chocolate, caramel corn. Crisp finish with lingering sweetness. Too sweet in the finish.”

Overall: “A complex malty beer where the hops play second fiddle to the malt. We buy 90 Minute a lot and didn’t recognize it.”

Dogfish Head Craft Brewery 61 Minute IPA

**Aroma:** “Complex aroma that is hard to pin down. Toasted sweet bread, subtle caramel, some butterscotch, earth, piney character, rhubarb? sour cherries? grapes?” **Flavor:** “If they said this was a raspberry English bitter, it wouldn’t be surprising. Very fruity and tart. Flavors blend between grape notes and citrus with slight grapefruit. Complex fruitiness dances through. Finishes dry with a slight warmth. Rhubarb. Astringent. Smoked cherry. It’s gotta be grape.” **Overall:** “Hops are well-selected to favor earthy, spicy over citrus. Fruitiness is fresh and crisp. Enjoyable—didn’t deliver on the hoppy IPA experience but scores much better as a specialty ale. ”

Dogfish Head Craft Brewery Burton Baton

**Aroma:** “Intense and layered notes of alcohol and sweet breadcrust. Hints of raisins, cinnamon, and cloves.” **Flavor:** “Dark fruit notes with fig and grape must flavors. Firm alcohol presence and an intense malt richness that borders on barleywine. There’s definitely age on this and a hint of wood, and the perfect amount of hop bitterness to balance out the sweetness.” **Overall:** “It’s complex but not overwhelming and rich but not cloying. This is a fantastic beer—a delicious, end-of-the-night, watch The Godfather and fall asleep on the couch kind of beer.”

Dogfish Head Seaquench

“Subtle sweet lime meets coriander-like citrus in the nose. Concentrated lime pops in the flavor but leads down an astringent path. Tartness is moderate with a slightly milder salty quality. The bitterness is a bit strong in the mix, so you might not drink this all night, but it’s a good, brooding start.”
