What the brewers say

“Eis Maker is not produced by freezing, removing the ice, and collecting what remains, but we use the notation to indicate that the beer is very strong. You will find this Eis Bock to be sweet, malty, and boozy with notes of raisin and dark fruit, and similar in profile to a barleywine.”

What our panel thought

Aroma: “Rich toffee malt with a umami, Parmesan cheese note dosed up with sweet fruit (dried plums, currants, and figs).”

Flavor: “Toffee-like, rich and chewy, with an almost buttery character. Comes across a bit thick, but not overly cloying on balance. Finish is relatively dry and has a noticeable alcoholic heat without being harsh or burning. Barrel character isn’t particularly distinctive, but it smooths out the complex flavors to give them a more refined character.”

Overall: “Rich, smooth, and sneaky. Tons of complexity throughout. Dangerous. So bring us some figgy pudding, and bring it right now!”
