Schramm's Mead Ginger

What the brewers say

“Schramm’s Ginger is a full-throated, unapologetic expression of ginger and honey. It is intended as an accompaniment to grilled or spicy Indian, Ethiopian, or Thai cuisine, Grilled Korean mackerel, flavorful sushi and sashimi such as salmon, and dark chocolate.”

What our panel thought

Aroma: “Strong over-the-top lavender and spice, light honey, some alcohol warming. Acetone, orange, lemon, bergamot, citrus oil, with slightly hot alcohol, becoming more clearly citrusy and zesty-musky-sweet.”

Flavor: “Lavender, citrus, ginger mild honey flavor, cloying, alcohol heat lingers. Not well balanced. Spice honey with a citrus acid finish. Orange, lemon, pith, light acidity, moderate sweetness aftertaste. Moderate sweetness, moderate acidity. Oily lightly tart aftertaste.”

Overall: "Strong, sweet, hot, and bold mead. Not for the tame. Out of balance and really needs aroma help. Muddled citrus/herbal flavor.”
