Green Bench Brewing Co The Lifted Veil

What the brewers say

The Lifted Veil is a blend of Foursquare Rum barrel-aged Imperial Stouts, and Heaven Hill 7-year barrel-aged English-style Barleywines, all aged for nearly 2 years prior to blending. Bold and complex, The Lifted Veil is a treat: warm chocolate and sweet caramel with nuanced vanilla, cocoa, and molasses barrel character.

What our panel thought

What our editors thought

Plum and rum in the nose, with deep fruity chocolate tones. Unabashedly dark-fruit forward in the sip, with a semi-sweet chocolate, a pronounced but luxurious ethanol heat, dried tart cherry and even a hint of aged balsamic depth. Bold and characterful.

Wild Fields Brewhouse Mountain Moonlight

“Soft chocolate-malt and dark-fruit aroma with a hint of vanilla. Very low woody hops. Bright and velvety malt character with flavors of light roast coffee, caramel, vanilla, cherry. Playful berry esters add sweetness and acidity. Semisweet, silky finish.”

Upland Brewing Teddy Bear Kisses

__Aroma:__ “A nice medium roast on the nose, with secondary notes of bitter and semisweet chocolate. There’s a fair amount of caramel and dark toffee on the nose that pairs nicely with the roast, but the earthy aroma at the back really dominates. Initially, it almost comes across as a chocolate latte.” __Flavor:__ “Bitter chocolate covers the mouth with some extreme roast character, which gives it a slight wood and tobacco presence. The roast really dominates with a chewy flavor, as if biting into an espresso bean−laced dark chocolate bar. The mouthfeel is fantastic, and coats the cheeks. Finishes with hoppy bitterness, cigar, and tobacco notes.” __Overall:__ “A very good beer. The chocolaty sweetness comes through on the nose and holds on just long enough to balance the roast and cigar notes.”

Green Bench Brewing Co The Pursuit

“Dark rum leads the aroma, tailed by chocolate, dark caramel, maple, brown sugar, toffee, dark fruit. Rum stays in the front of flavor as well, with spicy richness that helps cut through any cloying sweetness.”
