Mark Anthony Brands White Claw Raspberry

What the brewers say

Where fresh, ripe raspberry flavor meets cold, crisp refreshment.

What our panel thought

Moderate raspberry-candy aroma. Flavor balances fruit, sweetness, and just a bit of acidity; unnatural but dominant fruit character shows its face, then exits left. A touch more sweet than one would prefer. Refreshing. One-dimensional but well-made. Exactly what you would expect in a seltzer.

What our editors thought

Simple, candy-like raspberry essence in the nose is direct and unchallenging. The flavor is moderately sweet, decently carbonated. The sweetness builds with each sip, but the carbonation keeps it clean.

Utepils Brewing Co Helles

Attractive, brilliant gold. Classical nose: bread crust and dough in gestalt with light herbal hops. Lime-zest note emerges. Doughy malt flavor leans sweet, roundly married to a soft, spicy bitterness. Light, sweet malt note and low bitterness linger together. Dry, crisp finish. Interesting, well constructed, addictive.

Redstone Meadery Black Raspberry Nectar

**Aroma:** “Blackberry, black cherry, light floral honey, a touch of raspberries, and black currant. Light vanilla but not much honey. Low alcohol presentation and light sulfite that begins to take over before fruit notes chime in again.” **Flavor:** “Very light floral honey with a moderate sweetness and an aftertaste of slight tannic raspberries, with a touch of residual sweetness, and a light cherry finish. Clean, low astringency, and a light acidity that seems to come from the fruit. Off-dry finish with petillant carbonics, moderate tannic aftertaste and moderate acidity show more of the full fruit.” **Overall:** “Easy drinking mead. This is a crisp, clean mead with a light berry fruitiness—black cherry and raspberry notes dominate. Wonderful fruit expression, could use a touch more honey, but very well made for a session mead. Very easy to drink and well balanced. Fruity esters and light carbonation really bring this together.”

Goose Island Brewery Bourbon County Brand Stout Regal Rye 2015

**Aroma:** “Strong chocolate, light cherry, touch of plum, moderate candi syrup, moderate date, raisins, figs, port. Rich sweetness with a moderate Belgium fruitiness. Reminds me of a barleywine with a touch too much chocolate. Moderate alcohol note Bourbon sweetness, more corn than vanilla.” **Flavor:** “High fruitiness up front with a high cherry note. Strong acidity, moderate chocolate, fig, and vanilla, big sweetness, port notes. A bit of coffee and chocolate at the end of the sip. A well-attenuated and huge beer. Strong bourbon character with some coffee-like notes. Spicy.” **Overall:** “Fun chocolate- and dark fruit–dominated beer. Even with the sweetness, the body is light and bright with the nice acidity and strong fruit notes. So many big pieces come together to make this beer. The bourbon character is very strong throughout. This is one of the more interesting beers we’ve had.”
