Upland Brewing Oak Timbre

What the brewers say

"Oak Timbre is Basis, our blonde ale, aged on Indiana-grown chambourcin grapes for 6 months in brand-new oak wine barrels. The result is a sour ale that pours deep burgundy with wine-like flavors and aromas complemented by tannins pulled from the fresh barrels."

What our panel thought

"Intensely dark and jammy fruit and lots of oak, which lightens up the intense dark fruit. The fruit character is like dark cherry, dark plum, and blackberry more than grape. Slight sweetness into strong sour that fades into a dry finish accentuated by oak tannins."

What our editors thought

"Bracing and sharp, the aroma of burnt toast with its alluring mix of sweet breadiness and meaty phenols layered on the most mild of fruity berry characters offers an interesting juxtaposition that balances fruit and beer."
