Ozark Beer Company BDCS 2021

What the brewers say

"Imperial Double Cream Stout aged in Bourbon Barrel for 8 months."

What our panel thought

“Massive coconut and milk chocolate nose; hints of coffee, vanilla, and peanut. Sweet, but with enough dark-chocolate character to rein it in. Finish is thick, creamy, and decadent.”

What our editors thought

“Caramel, roast, and big bourbon notes on the nose evoke a caramel-bourbon cocktail. On the sip, a roast softness lets the caramel malt notes push forward with light layers of roast underneath, selling a bourbon richness without harsh extremities. Remarkably smooth and integrated.”

Ozark Beer BDCS 2018

Aroma: “Dark chocolate up front with caramel and maple syrup behind that. Vanilla and whiskey barrel help round everything out.” Flavor: “Very dark rich chocolate syrup. Chewy dark malt with an intense roast bitterness, but backed with a chocolate, caramel sweetness to balance. Luscious, rich, and tongue-coating, with a pleasant warming booziness on the swallow. Some barrel spiciness comes through at the end to cut the sweetness a bit. The barrel adds a hazelnut, toasted marshmallow, vanilla, and caramel character.” Overall: “Lush, bitter, rich, velvety, and fantastically complex. A beer to savor as it warms while you sit next to a fire. The complexity without adjunct additions is really astounding.”

Ozark Beer Company Batch One Thousand

“Rich and decadent aromatics of caramel, vanilla, chocolate, bourbon-soaked raisins, and toffee. The flavor adds layers of biscuit, coffee, and roast along with a drying alcoholic warmth.”

Elevation Beer Oil Man Imperial Stout

Barrel-forward with up-front vanilla, dark fruit, alcohol, bittersweet chocolate, toasted marshmallow. Sweet flavor, creamy, fading into bitterness and warmth. Aggressive barrel but with the malty bones to support it. Chocolate liqueur character. Big, unrefined, complex, and good for sharing.
