Perrin Brewing Company Anniversary Amber Ale

What the brewers say

This deep, complex, malt-forward amber ale has notes of gooseberries, black currant, and a pleasant hop aroma.

What our panel thought

Pleasant nose, as light caramel and biscuit blend with light citrus-dank hops and soft perfume esters. Piney hops step forward in flavor, balanced by backdrop of biscuit, caramel, and bread-crust malt. Drier finish, smooth aftertaste. Hits the marks but lacks that "wow" factor.

What our editors thought

Whisper-quiet nose with faint bread crust and vague fruity esters. The sip stays low-key, eschewing character for broad drinkability. The result is nothing—a beer that isn't trying to be anything and succeeds at its goal.
