Stone Brewing Stone Imperial Stout

What the brewers say

“Coffee, black currant, and molasses support dark chocolate and heavy roast.”

What our panel thought

“Low-key aroma with hints of malted milk, chocolate, burnt sugar, spiced rum. Substantial maltiness with burnt-sugar notes. Appropriately dense body is somewhat soft. A sneaky hop bitterness pulls everything together. A bit of a throwback, resting on malts instead of adjuncts.”

What our editors thought

“Deep chocolate aroma with amaro herb notes, a bit of peach ester, toasted grain, and fresh rustic bread. Layered sip smoothly integrates sweeter caramel malt with roasted malt and a judicious hop note with some fruit and herbal bitterness.”
