Verboten Brewing Barrel-Aged Others In Darkness: Irish Coffee

What the brewers say

“BBA imperial stout with barrel-aged coffee and lactose added.”

What our panel thought

“Concentrated coffee and tobacco in the nose. Burnt caramel and dark-roasted coffee dominate the flavor. Light chocolate and a slight citrus freshness toward the end. Sweetness is nicely balanced with the dark-roast flavors that linger on the tongue.”

What our editors thought

“Fruity coffee in the aroma drives some higher notes in the aroma, but the midtones feel EQ’d out while the roasty bass booms. Chocolate drives the flavor with just a glimpse of coffee, while the barrel fades into the background.”
