What the brewers say

“West Coast–style IPA brewed with Citra, Cascade, Simcoe, Citiva, and Sticky Fingers blend.”

What our panel thought

“Sweet toast malt hits the nose first, then grapefruit, limoncello, a touch of red apple. Floral, diesel hop flavor, a sweet, crystal malt–like presence ties it all in and leads you to an off-dry finish. This is all complemented by a great mouthfeel. A very classic and solid American IPA.”

What our editors thought

“Light passion fruit and guava in the aroma take on an almost candy character in the sip, balanced deftly by a light peppery bitterness.”

WeldWerks Brewing Co. Steambarrel IPA

“Bright, classic gold-orange in the glass with a robust head. Subdued grapefruit on the nose with some underlying orange zest. Clean malt profile, a bit bready, a touch sweet, What’s missing is balancing bitterness. A bit chalky at the finish.”

WeldWerks Brewing Co. Nectaron Extra Extra Juicy Bits

“Nails the hop interplay: dank Mary Jane, citrus, tropical edges, a touch of grass. Hop reciprocity follows through the flavor into the finish. Never shy but doesn’t bang you over the head. Cloud-like mouthfeel, but there is a presentation of dry simplicity with low minerality. Alcohol heat. Orangey-fruit finish.”

Firestone Walker Brewing Co STiVO

“Pale yellow in color, unfiltered, with a nice bright white head that lingers. Bright floral hop aroma with a touch of dank in the background. Pleasant soft citrus in both the aroma and flavor is tempered by a moderate and very clean bitterness. A lifting herbal and light melon citrus hop flavor builds, but just when it’s about to reach the upper limit, it lets off the gas and the grainy malt starts to come into balance. Slightly minerally, with a clean, dry finish. Overall, a very fresh and soft quality with a quick and clean finish. Well-crafted with no flaws. Aggressive without hitting the limit.”
