Burial Beer Anno Domini MMXIX

What the brewers say

Working the angles of several of our favorite flavors while taking direction from tasty little coconut-lemon-curd cakes at our favorite baker. Aged with coconut, freshly zested Meyer lemon, Counter Culture Morita cof-fee, and a dose of Madagascar vanilla bean.

What our panel thought

Aromas of chocolate, vanilla, and lemon. The sweet stout and spice character come together quite well, cre-ating the impression of sweet Thai coffee. Bordering on cloying, but complex enough to make it work. The spice character creates a unique and complex beer.

What our editors thought

Lemon zest is an unexpected but bright and curious addition on the nose. The body is thick and the sip sweet but with a unique and singular herbal flavor. Interestingly like no other stout we’ve had.

Burial Brewing Anno Domini MMXX

Creamsicle! Bright orange up front, followed by vanilla and coconut sweetness. Hints of chocolate and roast hiding in the background. Balanced chocolate flavor with orange, marshmallow, and coconut.

Other Half Bourbon Barrel Aged Pastrytown VIP

Aroma is toasted marshmallows dipped in bourbon-spiked hot chocolate with perhaps a touch of oatmeal-raisin cookies. Taste is essentially identical. The finish is creamy and smooth. This beer hits the marshmallow notes in a way that most people only hope to. Barrel is present, adding notes of toasted coconut, cinnamon, and clove.

Burial Beer Fall of the Damned (2019)

Fresh blackberry/raspberry dominates aroma. Jammy. Light balanced acidity. Notes of Brett leather, wood, and raspberry seed. Deep ruby, lightly hazy pour with very good retention. Flavor is acidic up front, well-balanced. Just a touch of wheaty dough and bread. Fruit complexity very good and generally blends with the acid well, though it does tend to dominate the beer overall. Finish is dry and very tart but clears off the palate relatively quickly.
