Wasatch Apricot Hefeweizen

What the brewers say

Wasatch Apricot Hefeweizen is all about a beautiful apricot nose, a tart crisp body, and a smooth refreshing finish.”

What our panel thought

“A beer drinker’s fruit beer! Captures all the wonderful aromas and flavors of the apricot without going down the road of nectar-like sweetness. It remains true to its beer roots with a simple malt backbone and a crisp, almost dry finish.”

What our editors thought

A fruity nose sets up an expectation for a sweet beer, but the light and attenuated body delivers a sip that’s less cloying than one would expect. Still, it’s a touch watery, and if you go looking for the roundness of a wheat beer, you’ll be looking past your next sip.”

Wasatch Blueberry Hefeweizen

“Dominant blueberry. The earthiness of a fresh blueberry works well within the canvas of the base beer. A slightly thin body is the only possible knock against this otherwise unique, tasty beer.”

Wallenpaupack Brewing Company Hawley Hefeweizen

“Excellent presentation—large, off-white, poofy head of tiny bubbles that linger. Moderately grainy bread dough kicks off the aroma, followed by subdued but balanced banana esters along with low clove and black-pepper notes. The appropriately cloudy appearance sets the stage for a soft and creamy mouthfeel that gently carries the rounded grainy sweetness. The flavor matches the aroma with a nice grainy, bready base that supports medium-low banana esters and medium black pepper and clove phenolics. Hints of light vanilla further add to a metered sweet impression that remains supremely drinkable. Overall, very nicely balanced with restraint on esters and phenolics—all of the components play very nicely together.”

Dry Dock Apricot Blonde

Aroma: “Strong rich apricot aroma, reminiscent of apricot nectar. Very subtle floral hops in the background. Almost like a fruit cocktail. Sweet.” Flavor: “Apricot-dominant. Distinct apricot flavors that incorporate aspects of both flesh and skin. Slight floral and perfumy hops flavors help cut through some of the fruit sweetness, without lowering the overall impact of the fruit. Fruit notes are slightly acidic and crisp. More ‘beer’ character emerges in the flavor, so it’s not all fruit. Pretty well-balanced. Slightly tart finish.” Overall: “Fairly well-balanced beer that integrates the apricot well into the base beer. Nice apricot flavor and well-balanced in the finish. For such an intensely fruit-forward beer, it still manages to convey an endearing beer character that keeps it from being alcoholic fruit punch.”
