Area Two Experimental Brewing Black Raspberry Lambic

What the brewers say

Made with European black raspberries. Aged in American and French oak barrels. Perfect balance between lambic sourness and dark berry flavors.

What our panel thought

Bold cherry, blackberry, raspberry, and black currant aromatics with oaky vanilla undertones. A bit of funk and acetic complement. Vibrant, jammy blackberry in the flavor lingers through to the finish, with a bold acidity, soft tartness, light dryness, and tannic complexity reminiscent of a bold cabernet.

What our editors thought

Intense dark and juicy beer notes on the nose, indulgent and luxurious. The body is almost cabernet sauvignon–like. Flavor is bold natural raspberry, deep and engaging with a bit of currant spice. An oaky through-line adds a subtle feeling of age. Exquisite.

3 Fonteinen Homage Blend No. 110, Season 18/19

“Raspberry and cranberry-like aromas with sourdough bread and leathery funk. Bold sour raspberry slowly fades into a mouthcoating funk with hints of leather, smoke, and a light oaky tannin.”

Area Two Experimental Brewing Black Raspberry Lambic

“Rich and decadent aroma of raspberries. Syrupy smooth, sweet, candied-raspberry flavors slowly fade into a rich and drying finish. Luxurious despite its singularity.”

Jester King Brewery 2021 All-Texas SPON

“Pleasant lightly tart nose with some grassy hop character. Bright lemon dominates at the expense of subtle character. Hints of mushroom, musty cellar mid palate. Abrupt finish with hop bitterness.”
