Ecliptic Brewing BA Sedna Tiramisu Stout

What the brewers say

"Hibernates for 11 months, picking up notes of caramel, spice, and oak complexity."

What our panel thought

"Semisweet nose: coffee, cocoa, cinnamon. Sweet up front; lingering coffee and chocolate flow underneath. Smooth, appealing. Dry, roast-coffee finish with spicy barrel, which masks some softer traits."

What our editors thought

"Bourbon, dark cherries, cocoa, and burnt-sugar caramel drive the nose. The sip pushes dry cocoa forward, for heavy chocolate without excessive sweetness. Light body never quite brings the expected oomph."

Sun King Brewing Shadow Proof Peanut Butter

Strong peanut butter, light milk chocolate, banana. Light berry esters. Sweet, dark chocolate dominates flavor, with roasted nuts, bright cherry, and fig. Finishes fairly sweet, with lasting nutty chocolate aftertaste. Alcoholic warmth. A bit muddled and slightly unfocused.

Brew Kettle - Production Works Kitka Coconut Chocolate Milk Stout

“Ruby highlighted edges. Light Nestlé milk chocolate nose, with soft berry notes. Significant chocolate in the flavor, simple yet agreeable. The thin sip tempers the coffee, chocolate, and toffee flavors, but with that thinness comes drinkability. It finishes crisp and fairly clean, making it easy to go back in for another sip.”

Beachwood BA System of a Stout

Aroma: “Rich dark chocolate malt up front with a chai coffee aroma. There’s a fair amount of booze up front as well with spicy cardamom. After the initial burst of aroma, there’s a touch of oak and dark fruit, including currants.” Flavor: “Dark fruits, coffee, and chai dominate. Moderately strong sweetness leads into moderately strong bitterness that slowly fades. A fair amount of alcohol warmth helps to balance. Barrel character comes through nicely in the aftertaste. Complexity from the brandy, some light wood character with vanilla.” Overall: “Distinctive as an imperial barrel-aged stout—the Arabic coffee character is well-done; the spice is balanced nicely.”
