What the brewers say

“Our classic American IPA hopped with Cascade, Centennial, and Chinook.”

What our panel thought

“Intriguing hop aroma hits some unusual notes—herbal but candied, with notes of lime peel. Bright tropical mango and pineapple with low spicy resin. Medium body with a pure and judicious malt sweetness; the bitterness is evident but nicely restrained.”

What our editors thought

“Toasted curry, tamarind, mango, and papaya on the nose—spicy with a compelling mix of herbal and sweet. On the sip, gentle but present bitterness angles perfectly against the light malt.”

Hop Butcher Run to Daylight

Holy wow on the nose—smells like freshly squeezed OJ, almost one-dimensional but in a good way. Lots of orange, complex orange, and it doesn’t seem artificial. Might be even bigger in the flavor, like an Orange Julius. Alcohol is present but not distracting. Moderate sweetness up front supports the fruit, while moderate bitterness keeps it in balance. Finish is fairly abrupt and clean. One couldn’t drink several pints because then one couldn’t walk, but one would want to try. One of the best IPAs ever.

Triptych And I Think My Spaceship Knows Which Way To Go

Grapefruit, tangerine, onion, green pepper—diesel and garlic as it warms. Light malt flavor; sweetness complements bitterness and flavors of tangerine, pineapple, guava. Light must and subtle mushroom emerge. Finishes on the bitter side.

Pontoon Brewing Company I Want It Cold & I Want It Now

“Light, bright tropical aroma of mango, melon, passion fruit, and lime blend with hints of pine, strawberry, cotton candy for a complex, layered nose. Flavor is less nuanced but delivers a healthy dose of piney and earthy bitterness.”
