Barn Town Brewing Co. Gluten Free Peanut Butter And Jelly Sour

What the brewers say

“Gluten-free sour conditioned on peanuts with Concord grape juice added to make it taste like a PB&J sandwich.”

What our panel thought

“A big, crunchy peanut-butter nose with a hint of Concord grape starts the ride down memory lane, and the flavor does the rest. And you know what? It’s pretty damn fun.”

What our editors thought

“Strong toasted peanut in the nose and a bready note, with only hints of grape around it. But as with the sandwich, the grape dominates the flavor. Thankfully, the nutty notes add dimension to the grape, heightening the richness.”

Barn Town Brewing Co. Move Aside & Let the Mango Through

“Bombastic strawberry aroma and flavor assault the senses in a good way, like a sweet, strawberry daiquiri, without a hint of alcohol. This is mock-daiquiri served at prom. A sugary, strawberry Starburst in liquid form. The mango flavors are promptly pushed to the back of the line. A semi-smoothie beer in appearance, texture, mouthfeel, and flavor. They forgot the sour (and the beer!). Ends in a cotton candy–like finish that stays on the tongue.”

Barn Town Brewing Co. Neon Hazy IPA

“A sweet grapefruit, tropical-fruit, candied-orange, pine aroma. Substantial malt, but still hop-forward with green herbs, pine, lemon drops. Firm bitterness is balanced with spicy alcohol notes. The finish has strong grapefruit notes, so while the beer starts with an impression of sweetness, that vanishes at the end.”

Catawba Brewing Co. Peanut Butter Jelly Time

__Aroma:__ “Peanuts, light toasty notes, touch of malt sweetness, light raspberry fruitiness, light earthy hops. Smells like a PB&J sandwich.” __Flavor:__ “Peanut-butter-and-jelly sandwich with the crust on. Big peanut in the start, light raspberry in the finish, touch of vanilla, moderate toasty, touch of earthy/wheat notes, thin-medium body, big mouthfilling carbonation. Raspberries come through as a light adjunct but do not provide much for complexity outside of initial flavor. Aftertaste: PBJ with the crust, moderate peanut, moderate toasty, touch of raspberry jam, light bitterness. A little light bodied but all elements are there. Finishes sweet but not too sweet.” __Overall:__ “If you want a PB&J (with the crust on) in a glass, this is it. Well executed, easy to drink beer that reminds me of childhood watching cartoons after school. The mixture between raspberries and peanuts hit the mark if they were going for PB&J, although it is somewhat muddled in the balance of the flavors.”
