What the brewers say

“Blend of 20-month-old port-finished bourbon barrel–aged stout and 8-month-old bourbon barrel–aged stout. Finished on Dominican cacao nibs from our friends at Culture Craft Chocolate.”

What our panel thought

Aroma: “Chocolate and dried cherry with spicy oak, caramel, toffee, and vanilla.”

Flavor: “Dark chocolate with an intense boozy barrel character. Warming without being overly aggressive. The finish is a balance of bitter dark malt and sweet chocolate. Nice spicy quality from the barrel. Very sweet, strong, and rich.”

Overall: “Rich chewy, boozy. This has all of the complexity you expect from this style: massive dark roast and hints of coffee and dried fruit, all backed by a significant boozy barrel character that adds an underlying heat. Sneaky! It improves as it warms.”
