Boise Brewing Snowboarder Porter

What the brewers say

“Notes of chocolate, coffee, slight caramel sweetness.”

What our panel thought

“Aroma features pomme or pear esters more than roasted malt; chocolate, light coffee, hint of cherry. Light, sweet, fruity—light tartness and chocolate flavors dominate. Light hazelnut note. Malty sweetness lingers into aftertaste. Nice complexity, easy drinking.”

What our editors thought

“Orange caramel in the nose, echoed by light hops. The sip leans into light chocolate-orange, with no noticeable roast and tame hop bitterness. A simplified, classic American-feel offering a comfortable energy.”

Boise Brewing Dark Daisy Milk Stout

“Bold roast, coffee, and dark-chocolate malt aromas accentuated by hints of pine and earthy hops. Hints of bitter chocolate, coffee, black malt, and a touch of smoke. Pleasant bitter finish complements the roast-forward body.”

Guggman Haus Brewing Co. Haus Blend Coffee Milk Stout

“Chocolate pudding collides with fresh, robust dark-roast coffee on the nose. The flavor delivers coffee with burnt-edge nuances, melding well with the stout and residual body; milk-chocolate notes complementing the bitterness. Burnt-sugar sweetness lingers, but it’s well balanced and delivers exactly what you expect.”

Anchor Porter

Aroma: “Huge ester profile with a pronounced red licorice character. Cherry and touch of lemony tartness. No roast or chocolate under the esters to my nose, but they do show up on retronasal, thankfully.” Flavor: “Rich caramel sweetness, some dark fruit and toffee. The roast is restrained, paired well with the bitterness on the finish to balance overall. Finish has a nice lingering quality of light coffee and milk chocolate.” Overall: “Fairly strong ester character throughout muddles the overall impression. Lots of malt complexity, though, and the finish has a great balance of sweet milk chocolate paired with roast/hops bitterness.”
