Boneyard Beer Co RPM IPA

What the brewers say

“Slightly sweet maltiness balanced with five PNW hops.”

What our panel thought

“Fresh pine, lingering citrus-hop aromas. Orange peel, light grapefruit hop flavors sit atop a soft malt foundation. Light body with subtle malt notes, balanced with crisp hop bitterness. Somewhat astringent finish with a pleasant bitterness and a touch of orange juice.”

What our editors thought

“Light stone fruit with some crusty sourdough bread in the aroma. Aggressive bitterness in the sip hits hard with a ripping energy. Not for the faint of heart.”

Firestone Walker Brewing Co Mind Haze

“Cotton-candy and grape notes in the nose, with hints of perfume and light floral. Flavor profile is light but fleeting. A wash of chalkiness strips away much of the nuance. As the finish lingers, hints of pine and citrus emerge. APA body encased in hops.”

Schlafly / The Saint Louis Brewery Dry Hopped APA

**Aroma:** “Citrus and pine with notes of grapefruit peel and tangerines and no real malt or yeast character. Interesting, yet straightforward hops choices. Nice and piney, with a light dankness and some pleasant citrus character.” **Flavor:** “Grapefruit and orange rind with a bit of pine and lemon sits atop a clean fermentation and very little malt backbone. Finish is dry and a touch bitter but doesn't linger. Put together well with nice bright flavors, hops, and malt that play off each other nicely.” **Overall:** “Pretty classic example, with just a bit more bitterness than is typical for the style, but not overwhelming and still enjoyable. Lots of citrus and a bit less hops complexity as a result, but great for the style. A nice bright beer with conventional hops, but well executed and quite drinkable. Great example of the style.”

Lagunitas Brewing Company IPA

**Aroma:** “Very unique but subtle hop flavors: white wine, pear, grape juice, light spice/peppery. Some malt sweetness evident. Somewhat restrained hop profile with slight citrus, earthy almost Noble hop character.” **Flavor:** “An intense hop juiciness, with white wine, gooseberry, lemon grass, pineapple, melon. Not much malt character—hop flavor is the show! Finish is mostly bitter but balanced, with a slight lingering bitterness.” **Overall:** “A wonderfully hoppy beer in the best way. Bitterness is appropriate, though a touch more malt character would be good. Hops are decidedly American with citrus and pine at the forefront. Lacks complexity of some others, but still very tasty.”
